Service Above Self: LHC Rotary Club Creates Lasting Change for Local Veterans

What began as a conversation quickly became a meaningful act of service.

After hearing a presentation from our local Veterans Treatment Court, members of the Lake Havasu City Rotary Club were inspired to do something special for veterans who will soon move into a new veterans housing project in our community. The idea was simple: welcome these heroes home with baskets filled with household essentials to help them start their next chapter.

The club immediately embraced the idea.

During this week's Rotary meeting, members transformed the meeting into a hands-on community service project, assembling 24 Welcome Home Baskets filled with items that will help veterans settle into their new homes. True to the Rotary spirit, the generosity didn't stop there. Members donated so many additional household goods that an entire truckload of items was delivered to the local Clothes Closet, extending the impact well beyond the original project.

To make the accomplishment even more impressive, Rotarians completed the project on what felt like one of the hottest days of the Arizona summer. Despite the soaring temperatures, members worked side by side with enthusiasm, demonstrating that service has no season and no temperature limit.

This project reflects the power of community partnerships. By listening to the needs shared by the Veterans Treatment Court and responding with action, the Rotary Club was able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local veterans while strengthening support for organizations serving our community.

Rotary's motto, Service Above Self, was on full display. The Welcome Home Baskets are more than boxes of household items. They represent gratitude, dignity, and a warm welcome for those who have served our country.
